How to Make Homemade Yogurt, Fail Resistant
Yogurt is a delicious and healthy snack that is easy to make at home. This recipe is foolproof, so you can be sure that your yogurt will turn out perfectly every time.
Ingredients
- 1 liter (34 ounces) of unflavored milk
- 100 ml (3.5 ounces) of unflavored yogurt
Instructions
- Sterilize the milk. You can do this by boiling it for 1 minute or by heating it to 145 degrees Fahrenheit (63 degrees Celsius).
- Let the milk cool to 110 degrees Fahrenheit (43 degrees Celsius). You can use a thermometer to check the temperature, or you can place a drop of milk on the inside of your wrist. If it feels warm but not hot, the milk is ready.
- Mix the yogurt into the milk. Stir until well combined.
- Pour the mixture into a sterile container, a glass or plastic container with a secure closure.
- Wrap the container in a towel and place it in a warm place. The best place to ferment yogurt is in a turned-off oven with the light on.
- Let the yogurt ferment for 6-12 hours. The longer the yogurt ferments, the more tart it will be.
- Once the yogurt is fermented, refrigerate it for at least 2 hours before serving. This will help it to thicken.
Tips
- Use whole milk for the creamiest yogurt.
- If you don't have a thermometer, you can heat the milk until it is just below boiling. Then, remove it from the heat and let it cool for 5 minutes before mixing in the yogurt.
- If you want to make flavored yogurt, you can add fruit, honey, or vanilla extract to the milk before fermenting.
- Yogurt can be refrigerated for up to 2 weeks.
Enjoy!
